Running Power Stations
Located near Mecheda at East Midnapore district along the Main Line of South Eastern Railways that connects Howrah and Nagpur on the banks of Rupnarayan River, the Kolaghat Thermal Power Station has the highest capacity among the State Sector Utilities of West Bengal.
Conveniently located near Haldia, Kolaghat Thermal Power Station has clear access via roadways through Haldia Road, which takes off from NH-6 at Kolaghat. The Station’s Railways siding is an extension of the Mecheda Railway Station that is located at an approximate distance of 1.5 kn from the site.
In its first phase, three units were commissioned between 1984 and 1990. In the next phase, another three units were commissioned between 1991 and 1993. Today, with six units, all operational, the total installed capacity of the Station stands at 1260 MW.

Milestones
• 1 times Meritorious Award winner from CEA since inception on account of PLF, Peak Generation, Low Specific Oil Consumption, along with Performance…
• Highest Generation Achieved during the year 2004-2005 is 7385 MU at a PLF of 66.19%, since inception.
• Prior to adopting the New Technology, of Ammonia – based Flue Gas Conditioning System the level of SPM at the outlet of the chimney was 750 Mg/Nm3, a level that was higher than the prevailing stipulated value, 150 Mg/Nm3 of the Pollution Control Board. After adopting this system the level of SPM reduced to a remarkable value, <100Mg/Nm3
• Kolaghat Thermal Power Station received ISO 9001 – 2000 certification from the Bureau of Indian Standard. Till date it remains to be only ISO certified Power Station in West Bengal.
Situated 12 Km from Suri, the chief Sub-divisional Town of Birbhum district, Bakreswar Thermal Power Project is just 260 Km away from Kolkata. The project has clear rail track access via Chinpai on the Andal-Sinthia Line of Eastern Railways.
In its first phase, three nos. units were commissioned within March 2001 and In second phase, two nos. 210 MW units were synchronized between December 2007 to March 2009.For the Mani Plant work was entrusted on turnkey basis to Itochu & BHEL and Larsen & Toubro was awarded the job of Coal Handling Plant.At present, Bakreswar Thermal Power Project is running with five operational units having total installed capacity of 1050 MW. Expansion of another 600 MW unit (sixth unit) has been envisaged for implementation during the Eleventh-Five-year Plan period.

Milestones
• Unit I was commissioned in 37 months and 17 days, ahead of schedule.
• Recipient of the Award for Environment Excellence in two consecutive years, 2003 & 2004 and also in 2006 from the West Bengal Cleaner Production Centre
• Bakreswar TPP received the Silver Shield and Certificate for Meritorious outstanding performance from Ministry of Power, Govt. of India for the year 2003 – 2004
