PRAYOG - ERP Implementation in WBPDCL

In 2017-18, WBPDCL has implemented SAP ECC 6.0 for its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for entire organisation. The implementation is at completion stage and key modules are already operational. The system is re-branded as PRAYOG, an acronym for Planning for Resources Arrangement to Yield Organisation Goal, and has been suggested by a WBPDCL employee For the purpose, a Data Center (DC) with high-end Computing and adequate Storage has been set-up at Corporate Office and a Disaster Recovery (DR) at Sagardighi Thermal Power Station.

  • The project implementation started in November 2015 and Go-live happened on 15 th September 2017.
  • A core team, at Corporate Office - consisting of 12 senior executives of WBPDCL as Subject Matter Experts (SME) for different modules - supervised the implementation on day-to-day basis.
  • Similar core teams were formed at Plants to achieve the implementation at Plants in close coordination with Corporate Core Team, together around 120 senior executives were directly involved in the implementation. A DGM at each Plant worked as the Plant Coordinator.
  • The implementation went through detailed study on As-is Process, preparation of Business Process Master Lists (BPML), development of a To-be Process, Master Data and Cut-over Data preparation, rigorous User Acceptance Testing (UAT), training at Corporate and Plants, by-weekly pre and post Go-live Video Conference and other intensive interactive processes.
  • Almost all key business processes in Plant Maintenance, Operation, Procurement, Inventory Management, Finance and Accounts, Human Resources and Payroll are now controlled and managed through PRAYOG.
  • A dynamic Work Flow system has been implemented for online approval process for different transactions. Around 1700 user in Plants and Corporate Office are doing necessary transactions daily in PRAYOG.
  • Moreover around 4300 Employees are availing on-line self services like Performance Appraisal, Official Clearances, Leave and Loan Applications, Investment Declaration and many others.
  • The Payroll system is integrated with Biometric-based Attendance System across all Plants and Corporate Office.
  • The Plant Maintenance and Operation module is integrated with DCS and ABT Management System in Plants.
  • Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is the Implementing Agency - engaged through open tendering - and PwC is the Programme Management Consultant.
